Like many of the subscribers and readers of thisnewsletter I keep or write several blogs to complimentmy websites. It really has extended the reach of mysites and I am now getting a lot of traffic fromthe search engines to my blog postings and archive pages.
Blogs are a great way of building content and links toyour main site - its an addition (in my humble opinion) youmust now have if you want your site to remain competitive.
For getting your site spidered and indexed - it can't bebeat. If you're targeting certain 'keywords or phrases' -place them in your blogs and you will see a quick indexingof your keywords.
Even using free sites like Blogger.com or Bloglines.com willgive your site greater exposure and reach. All it takes isa little time and you can have a blog up and running withinminutes. There is no reason why you shouldn't be bloggingyour heart out!
Just go blog!

o Google's Portal!

Google has finally come out with a portalsite or page. If they wanted to remain competitive,it was a 'must have' development or next stepand it marks the 'coming of age' for this search engine.(Again, my humble opinion!)
You can now personalize your Google and make it yourown. Listing for gmail, news, weather, stocks and so on.It brings Google up to speed with other SEs portals likemymsn and myYahoo.

Why Google has decided to not use an RSS feature defiescomprehension! Someone high up in Google must be sitting ontheir 'anti-rss' behind - it really doesn't make sense.
One of the most popular uses of my.yahoo is the rssfeature - keeping up to date on your favorite blogsand subjects of interest. By definition, this is oneof the major reasons for a start or portal page. Firstthing you check in the morning - to get informed on thelatest news on your areas of interest. DUH!
Of course, this is only a 'beta' version of Google's portalpage - lets hope the final version will have an RSS feature.There should be a 'lobby' group petitioning Google to finallygrab the RSS 'wildcard' and put it into play! Enough already!
Not having RSS is like building a house without plumbing -you have to go outside to do your business!

o Pinging Your Blogs
Regularly pinging your blogs does wonders for getting yoursites spidered and indexed! Most of you have probablynoticed by now that using sites like 'myYahoo' to pingyour blogs and rss feeds is a great way of keeping yoursites and webpages in the indexes of the major search engines.
Pinging is simply sending out a signal to all the weblog trackingsites that your site/blog has been updated.
