As we head into summer, I always find I don'tspend as much time on my sites as I should! Butthis summer I plan to devote my time to studyingmore about RSS and SEO Rankings - how it effects yourrankings for the different search engines.
I believe there are definite advantages and I will, of course, keep you informed on my findings… keep reading…
o RSS Strategic Positioning
A while back I wrote an article on 'Chasing the Spider'.- How Strategic RSS Positioning can Give Your Site the Edge'- don't know if anyone has done any extensive research on theSEO advantages of RSS positioning (I am not a techie or SEOexpert so extensive data analysis is a little out of my league). However, I have noticed some marked improvements in my keywordrankings from using Blogs/RSS.
So much so, that now basically whenever I want to target amajor keyword or subject area - I set up a separate blogs/feedsfor that topic. Over a couple of months this will bring up yourrankings in many of the search engines. Mainly resulting fromthe numerous links you have linking back to your site. Thisis not blog/rss spamming - you offer valuable informationin your blog then link this keyword rich content to your site.
And one of the easiest ways to do this is take a task you wouldnormally be doing and put it into a blog. This newsletter is aperfect example - instead of just mailing it out to subscribersI place it in this blog.
Company updates is another great source of blog material. So toois a company 'getting to know you' blog - where everyonecontributes something to the blog - hey even Google is doing this.
Google's Blog.
Simple and easy way to 'flesh out' your site. Use the freeblogging sites or put blogs/rss on your own domains - mostprofessional marketers have hundreds of domains. (See below forfree rss scripts for your sites.)
Most notable improvements have come in my Yahoo rankings - hategiving examples of rankings because they can change overnight andyou end up with egg on your face. But some phrases I am targetingare 'how to build a web site' 'how to fix pc' 'notebook computerbuyers guide' (now these are not really popular keywords but theydo bring in some highly targeted traffic). You can check thesekeywords in Yahoo and see if my site comes up.
Also note, any targeted keywords or phrases should have paidsponsor ads on that page - it gives an indication that peopleare converting those keywords into sales otherwise they wouldn'tbe wasting their adverting bucks on useless keywords!
In Msn my keywords are rising but not as fast as Yahoo!
For Google, there is less call for cheers but I have noticed(alongwith everyone else) that using blogs is one of the bestand fastest ways to get your keywords indexed by Google. I useeBlogger which is owned by Google (not that its makes a difference- it just the one I started with and although an independentblog looks more professional - I have gotten used to eBloggerand like it - besides I can host the whole blog/feed on myown site).
Now, what I am really noticing is that my blogs act as atraffic funneling system that funnels targeted visitors tomy main sites and keywords. That is, even in Google, ifyou're not highly ranked for a keyword or phrase -so what-you can draw traffic from related keywords that than clickyour links to your very competitive keywords!
Blogs and feeds extend the reach of your site - pullingtargeted visitors to your keywords. Articles do much the same job!
It is a neat way of getting around the overly misused andabused Google PR ranking system, many sites for reallycompetitive keywords can buy links on high ranked sites toget top position for these keywords. Competing with sitesof PR7 or PR8 is a daunting task but even with a PR3 orPR4 site using blogs/rss (or articles) is just anothersmart way of skinning the cat - funnel traffic thru yourblogs and undercut your higher ranked competition.
You won't get as much traffic as these PR7 or PR8 sitesbut you will get traffic - it does work - just try it!
Anyone who has had their blogs/rss feeds up for awhile- know what I am talking about. I am just noticing thistrend as my blogs/feeds entries become more numerousand better indexed by the search engines.
It's a major tactic or marketing technique that can resultin more targeted visitors to your sites - which means moresubscribers, customers and/or sales for your site. It'salso a major reason why anyone with a web site must havea blog/rss feed if they want their site to remain trulycompetitive in a very competitive field.
This is a great source of traffic that you're leaving onthe table if you don't have blogs/rss feeds set up foryour site or keywords.
Get those Blogs and RSS Feeds up and running beforethe day is out!
